So sad to say goodbye:Green Bay Packers offensive tackle is released

Green Bay Packers offensive tackle is to be released

David Bakhtiari, a two-time First-team All-Pro offensive tackle, is nearing the end of his tenure with the Green Bay Packers. Having been part of the Packers squad since 2013, Bakhtiari is one of the longest-tenured players alongside Aaron Rodgers and Mason Crosby.

According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic via MLFootball, the Packers are likely to part ways with the talented

tackle soon. Pro Football Rumors suggests that by not re-signing Bakhtiari, the Packers could free up $21 million in cap space.

In 2020, Bakhtiari suffered a torn ACL shortly after signing a record-breaking $105.5 million extension with the team,

making it the highest contract ever offered to a player in his position. Unfortunately, the injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

Rasheed Walker is a prospect who could step into a more prominent role if Bakhtiari departs. In 2021, Walker filled

in for Elgton Jenkins, who was covering for Bakhtiari, after Jenkins sustained a torn ACL.

Bakhtiari’s recent seasons have been marred by injuries, limiting his ability to perform at his peak. In 2021, he missed the entire season due to a torn ACL.

According to The Athletic, his release is a “matter of formality”. Bakhtiari’s most likely landing spot is with the New York

Jets, where he could reunite with his former teammate and league icon, Aaron Rodgers.

The New York Jets are also expected to completely restructure their offensive lineup. It is expected that he will be able

to land a contract with the team with generous incentives, as injuries have plagued his previous seasons.
