Done deal:La Rams have hired a new quarterback coach

La Rams have hired a new quarterback head Coach

Just like in previous years, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay had to reshuffle his coaching staff due to many coaches being hired by other teams. In

their latest recruitment, they’ve brought on Dave Ragone, who’s accepting a slightly lower position to join McVay’s staff in L.A.

Ragone, a former third-round NFL draft pick and five-year player, has had coaching roles spanning three years with the Tennessee Titans, five years with the Chicago Bears, and the last three years with the Atlanta Falcons. He transitioned

from coaching wide receivers to quarterbacks, and then, while with the Falcons, he was promoted to offensive coordinator.

Now, with the Rams, he is stepping down from his role as offensive coordinator to resume coaching quarterbacks.

During Ragone’s tenure with the Falcons, the team experienced fluctuating offensive performance. In his first season as offensive coordinator, the Falcons ranked 27th in defensive-adjusted value

over average (DVOA). However, they made a significant improvement in his second season, rising to 8th place, before dropping back down to 24th in his third

season. Throughout this period, the Falcons faced inconsistency at the quarterback position, which posed challenges for any offensive coordinator.

Matthew Stafford, the Rams’ current quarterback, is considered superior to any quarterback the Falcons had during Ragone’s time there.

Bringing in someone with experience as an offensive coordinator to mentor the quarterbacks provides an opportunity for additional expertise within McVay’s

coaching staff. McVay has consistently demonstrated his ability to surround himself with knowledgeable football minds.

The Rams coaching staff has experienced a remarkable exodus this offseason following an unexpected turn of events in 2023, where L.A. clinched a postseason berth despite initial expectations of

contending for the top pick in the draft. The latest Rams coach to depart this offseason is former pass game specialist, Jake Peetz.

Initially hired as an offensive assistant coach, Peetz was later promoted to pass game specialist in 2023. After just one

season in this role with the Rams, he has now joined the Seattle Seahawks and their newly assembled coaching staff.
