Not the news Ohio state fans will like to hear from their quarterback

The Ohio State Buckeyes are poised to be contenders this season, bolstered by a strong transfer portal class that includes former Kansas State quarterback Will

Howard. However, Howard’s position as the starting quarterback for the entire season may not be as assured as some might assume.

Despite being the most seasoned player in the quarterback room, Howard’s status as the starter throughout the

season is questioned by On3 National Columnist Jesse Simonton. Simonton suggests that while Howard has shown promise, including leading Kansas State

to a Big 12 Championship Game victory over TCU two years ago, there’s a possibility that he may not retain the starting role by the end of the season.

With a highly competitive quarterback room featuring talents like Julian Sayin and Air Noland, alongside existing

players Lincoln Kienholz and Devin Brown, Howard’s position is not guaranteed. If he fails to perform, he could find himself replaced by another player.

During his tenure at Kansas State, Howard has accumulated 5,786 passing yards with 48 touchdowns and 25

interceptions. While these are respectable statistics, they may not be sufficient to secure an uncontested starting role without further validation.

Howard is likely to get the initial opportunity to start in the season opener against Akron, given his experience.

However, if he fails to deliver the expected level of performance, he could quickly find himself relegated to a backup role.
