So sad : Knicks Julius Randle is in tears as

Julius Randle opens up about injury and does not rule out surgery.

Just a day after the Knicks resumed practice and Tom Thibodeau provided some encouraging updates, the injured player himself addressed the media and left everyone feeling a bit less optimistic than we had hoped.

To be clear, Julius Randle’s remarks to reporters following Wednesday’s practice regarding his shoulder injury and rehab process were not catastrophic. They

weren’t disastrous or terrible. However, they also weren’t the most reassuring comments we could have heard from him. “I think I’m planning on being back

on the court April 1st, probably,” Randle quipped. “Nah, I’m just kidding. I’m just taking it a day at a time, to be honest. Every day I’m getting stronger and better.”

Just striving to maintain focus and prioritize both physical and mental well-being.”

The Knicks still have 27 games remaining in their regular-season schedule. As we approach April, just over a month away, there will be only two weeks left of regular-season play, with eight games remaining in New York’s final stretch before the playoffs.

It seems likely that by joking about an April 1 return date, Randle either anticipates returning much sooner, possibly by mid-March, or is simply aware that the regular season concludes shortly before mid-April.

The concern with Randle is that the current situation is reminiscent of last season when he persevered through the postseason while dealing with an injury that eventually required surgery in the offseason.

When asked about the possibility of experiencing a similar situation to last year, Randle didn’t completely dismiss it. “We’ll see,” Randle acknowledged. “There are still necessary steps to take. There’s a process for everything. I have to consider all factors and make a decision from there. Right now, my focus is on trying to avoid [surgery] and getting back on the court as soon as possible.”

Randle disclosed that he has received various opinions regarding the condition of his shoulder and whether surgery will be necessary to address it. “I’m pleased with how I feel today in terms of improvement, strength, and progress toward returning to the court,” Randle stated. “But I’m not one to rule anything out completely.”

It appears there may be some uncertainty brewing, as Randle made clear during his press conference on Wednesday. “Ultimately, I have to prioritize what’s best for my long-term career and longevity,” Randle emphasized.

Reflecting on the moment he collided with Miami Heat rookie Jaime Jaquez Jr. on January 27, Randle remarked, “The instant I hit the floor, I knew I was injured.”

Thibodeau provided additional insight on Wednesday, mentioning that Randle has been undergoing two daily sessions, prompting a humorous response from the three-time All-Star: “It’s amusing that Thibs shared that with you.”

Randle provided insights into his rehabilitation process and strategy, expressing his enthusiasm for it. “I love it,” he remarked. Despite receiving numerous messages from Thibodeau during the All-Star break, Randle appreciated the coach’s dedication to

two-a-day sessions. Randle emphasized his approach based on how he feels, pushing himself safely and cautiously in line with the guidance of the training team. He affirmed his commitment to giving his best effort.

Acknowledging the Knicks’ challenges with injuries in the three weeks leading up to the break, Randle concurred with the consensus that the team has managed to stay afloat reasonably well. He credited Thibodeau for preparing the

team consistently, irrespective of playing time, and noted that this resilience has brought the squad closer. Randle praised the team for making the most of opportunities and holding strong during the injury-ridden period.

While Randle finds solace in being around his teammates, he admitted that watching the game from the sidelines is frustrating. Despite his absence on the

court, he strives to be supportive, offering advice when needed and emphasizing the importance of camaraderie within the team.
