Daniel Farke says “Leeds are coming for the championship after last victory over Leicester city

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke dodged a question about his team potentially challenging for the

Championship title after their win over league leaders Leicester City last night, speaking with The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.

It appeared that the Foxes might take all three points after Wout Faes put the visitors ahead 1-0 in the 15th minute, helping to silence the Elland Road crowd.

In the second half, the away team had a golden opportunity to double their lead, but Patson Daka shot wide.

This missed opportunity proved costly, as Connor Roberts equalised in the 80th minute before Archie Gray took advantage of a deflection to put the Whites ahead.

Patrick Bamford sealed the victory in the fourth minute of stoppage time, when Dan James’ free kick deflected off the striker and into the goal.

This outcome provides a significant lift for the West Yorkshire team as they strive to regain promotion to the Premier

League in their first attempt. Leeds now sits just six points behind Leicester in their pursuit of returning to the top flight.

Throughout much of the season, Leicester City has maintained a high level of consistency, while Leeds United

initially struggled before finding their form. This made it appear unlikely that Leeds would ever be within reach of Leicester. However, the outcome of last night’s match has changed the situation,

putting Daniel Farke’s team in a favorable position. The hosts have won all their league games in 2024 and remained unbeaten in all competitions.

Despite their current success, Farke’s side still faces competition from teams like Ipswich Town and Southampton in

their quest for a top-two finish. Therefore, they cannot afford to become complacent.

However, there is a possibility that they could win the league championship.

When asked about the likelihood of Leeds finishing in first place this season, Farke responded, “That’s not my focus. My focus is on earning three points. I trust the table to sort itself out.”
