Falcons coach has high expectations for veteran free agent signing.

The focus may be on the quarterback position in the headlines, but there are numerous other compelling storylines to follow.

The price for Kyle Pitts’ fifth-year option has surfaced, while A.J. Terrell is in need of a contract extension. With the league’s

announcement of the salary cap figure for the 2024 season, the Falcons are poised to have approximately $40 million in cap space.

Additionally, the NFL Combine is slated to commence on Monday, marking the beginning of a flurry of activity leading

up to the league year and the onset of free agency signings by Terry Fontenot. Before we realize it, the draft will be upon us.

Despite the NFL being relatively quiet at the moment, there’s hardly any downtime for teams. However, there is some news for the Falcons as they

announced their first significant free agent signing, securing long snapper Liam McCullough on an exclusive rights free agent deal.

Throughout the past two seasons with the Falcons, McCullough has maintained a perfect attendance record, appearing in all 34 games. He will continue to serve as the long snapper for special teams, supporting kickers Younghoe Koo and Bradley Pinion.

While some may underestimate the significance of this move, it’s important to recognize the value of special teams in the game of football. In the NFL, the margins are often where games are won or lost, and special teams play a pivotal role in determining outcomes.

Although the Falcons’ special teams unit experienced a regression in 2023 after a strong showing under Marquice Williams in 2022, Williams has returned under Raheem Morris’s leadership. With McCullough’s return, there are high expectations for improvement in this area of the team.
