New favourite for Sunderland job as former Newcastle star emerges as top contender

The former Newcastle player has emerged as the clear favorite to take the Sunderland post.

After losing 2-1 to Birmingham and winning just four of his 12 games in charge—including a 3-0 FA Cup loss to Newcastle—Beale was fired by the Black Cats.

Since leaving Club Brugge after the 2018 season, where he managed just two wins

out of 12 games, the 43-year-old has been unemployed. The former England

international recently passed down the chance to join Aberdeen and has been

connected to several positions in Scotland and England.

Some bookmakers have Parker priced at 7/4, which puts him ahead of players like Frank Lampard (2/1), Will Still (3/1), and Paul Heckingbottom (7/2).

If Parker were to become the Black Cats’ manager, it would probably happen at the end of the current campaign, with Mike Dodds serving as interim manager in the interim.

The former captain of Newcastle also managed Fulham and Bournemouth,

winning promotions to the Premier League in both cases.
