Everton’s appeal against the 10-point deduction has been reduced to six

Following the Premier League appeals board’s decision to reduce Everton’s 10-

point deduction to six, the club has surpassed Nottingham Forest and Brentford in the Premier League

standings, reclaiming the 15th position. This adjustment grants Everton four points back.

Everton received a 10-point deduction for exceeding the allowed £105 million losses in the period ending 2021-22 by

£19.5 million. The club contested this penalty, citing mitigating factors, including permissible losses, such as

stadium costs, investment loss due to the Russian war, and pandemic-related setbacks.

Everton promptly appealed the 10-point deduction, claiming unfairness and asserting that the punishment was disproportionate. A three-man appeal

panel conducted a three-day hearing in late January and earlier this month. Despite not being permitted to introduce

new evidence, the club presented various legal arguments, led by prominent legal figure Laurence

Rabinowitz KC. Consequently, the 10-point penalty for financial rule breaches has been reduced to six points following the appeal.
