Despite Amad’s lack of playing time, Erik ten Hag maintains that Manchester United still needs him this season.

After recovering from a knee injury in December, the former Sunderland loanee has only made two Premier

League outings, one of which was a late substitute appearance during Saturday’s

2-1 loss to Fulham. Ten Hag decided to start Omari Forson, 19, ahead of Amad,

although both will be involved in the last stretch of the season.

Following the Fulham match, Ten Hag remarked, “Amad looks very sharp.” “I thought he gave a good substitute performance. That seems like a nice idea for the future. They are necessary because we are facing challenges on the front lines. Therefore, it’s up to them to demonstrate their capacity to work well with others and produce a final product, as well as their liability.”

Amad was reportedly unavailable when Sunderland attempted to re-sign him in the summer and January transfer windows. After joining the Premier League club in 2021, the 21-year-old is currently vying for a starting spot at Old Trafford against players like Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Forson, and Antony.

Regarding Antony’s substitution appearance during stoppage time against Fulham, Ten Hag answered, “No, it had nothing to do with fitness. Although we have a lot of choices over on the right side, he is fit. Because of injuries, we are lacking in other positions. We’ve all seen that form in the autumn, so Anthony needs to step up. I observe it in practice, as well as in players who ought to play, like Omari, Amad, Garnacho, and others.”
