|Browns receive bad news regarding Joe Flacco’s re-signing.
The Cleveland Browns are considering extending the contract of veteran quarterback Joe Flacco before he enters free agency this offseason.
Flacco’s impressive performance with the Browns last season has garnered interest from various teams in the free
agent market. Initially signed to the practice squad on November 20, Flacco quickly assumed the role of the starting
quarterback. From Week 13 onwards, he led the NFL in passing yards, averaging 323.2 yards per game, and contributed 13 touchdown passes.
At 39 years old, Flacco has limited time left in his career, and while he may seek a starting opportunity elsewhere, the Browns are keen on retaining him. Mary
Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com suggests that Cleveland may pursue a contract extension to prevent Flacco from reaching free agency.
In her recent Q&A column dated February 18, Cabot expressed her belief that the Browns will likely attempt to
negotiate an extension for Flacco before he becomes a free agent on March 13. However, she also anticipates that Flacco will want to explore his options and
gauge the level of interest from other teams. Cabot noted that Flacco is expected to receive more interest this offseason compared to last year when he
received no significant offers until the Browns reached out following Deshaun Watson’s injury in Week 10.
The Browns encountered numerous setbacks at the quarterback position
until Flacco’s arrival. Watson was sidelined twice due to a shoulder injury, while rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson
also had his season cut short. Consequently, the Browns had to start five different quarterbacks throughout the season.

However, some insiders, like Zac Jackson of The Athletic, believe Flacco is likely to
move on, especially with Deshaun Watson returning to the team. Watson’s return raises questions about his health,
as he is recovering from a serious shoulder injury and has played in only 12 games over the past two seasons.
If Flacco does not return, the Browns may consider options like Jacoby Brissett
as a veteran backup. The Browns have faced challenges at the quarterback position, with Watson and rookie Dorian
Thompson-Robinson both dealing with injuries during the season. Browns general manager Andrew Berry emphasized the importance of the
backup quarterback position and indicated a willingness to invest resources in ensuring depth at the position moving forward.
