Unbelievable : Falcons Coach have made a terrible decision to tackle Quarterback situation

Unbelievable : Falcons Coach have made a terrible decision to tackle Quarterback situation

The Atlanta Falcons are positioned with the eighth pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, a spot they’ve held for the last

three years. While the team’s strategy for this pick remains uncertain, new head

coach Raheem Morris is expected to seriously consider selecting a quarterback if one they favor is available.

During a media session on Tuesday addressing the team’s prospects for contention, Morris was candid, stating, “If we had better quarterback play, I

might not be standing here at the podium.” While some may perceive his assessment as harsh, Morris’s observation holds merit. Despite ranking

ninth in rushing yards per game, the Falcons failed to make the playoffs, joining the Bears, Colts, and Cardinals as the only teams in the top 15 rushing

offenses to miss postseason action. Notably, each of these teams had their starting quarterback sidelined for at least four games due to injuries.

Falcons’ starting quarterback Desmond Ridder experienced a turbulent season, during which he was benched twice.

Despite not missing games due to injury, Ridder’s performance was underwhelming, tallying 12 touchdown

passes, 12 interceptions, and ranking 26th in QBR. Additionally, he placed 30th out of 32 quarterbacks in Pro Football Focus’ rankings.

His replacement, Taylor Heinicke, didn’t significantly improve the team’s quarterback situation, throwing five

touchdowns and four interceptions in five games played. Collectively, the Falcons struggled in passing efficiency, finishing in the bottom five for

completion percentage and bottom six for quarterback rating, underscoring deficiencies during former head coach Arthur Smith’s tenure.

General Manager Terry Fontenot has expressed flexibility regarding the quarterback situation, suggesting the

team is open to exploring various options, whether it involves acquiring a veteran or a young player, according to

NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano. Speculation has linked Russell Wilson and Justin Fields to the Falcons as potential veteran quarterback targets.

Acknowledging his defensive background, Coach Morris recognizes the significance of addressing the

quarterback situation and has assembled a substantial coaching staff to tackle the challenge. He has surrounded himself

with 19 quarterback coaches, including new offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, whom Morris brought over from the Los Angeles Rams.

Heading into the draft, the Falcons have several avenues to consider. They could opt for an aggressive approach, trading

up to secure one of the top three quarterbacks in the draft class, such as Caleb Williams from USC, Drake Maye

from North Carolina, or Jayden Daniels from LSU. Alternatively, they might choose to stay put and select the best available player at a position of need,

such as edge-rusher Dallas Turner from Alabama, while possibly pursuing a trade for Fields if the Bears prioritize Williams with the first overall pick.

Another option entails trading down to accumulate additional draft assets and potentially targeting a quarterback later in the draft.

Regardless of the chosen path, one thing remains clear: the Falcons cannot afford

to enter the season with Desmond Ridder or Taylor Heinicke as their starting quarterback.
