Done deal:Kansas city chiefs have sign a monster star player

The Kansas City Chiefs could reportedly be close to a monster deal with a star player.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ decision to franchise standout cornerback L’Jarius

Sneed initially appeared to stir up controversy for the two-time defending Super Bowl champions.

Sneed was poised to enter the NFL free agent market in March alongside All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones. By applying the franchise tag to Sneed, the Chiefs’

rationale could have revolved around two potential scenarios. With Sneed’s tag value set at $19.8 million, the Chiefs may have concluded that Jones had priced

himself out of their market, especially after his holdout into the 2023 season, as the tag for Jones would have cost roughly $32 million.

Alternatively, behind the scenes in Kansas City, there might be a belief that the team stands a better chance of securing Jones on a long-term deal ahead

of NFL free agency compared to Sneed. Jones has consistently been the Chiefs’ top priority this offseason. While Sneed

played a crucial role in securing back-to-back Super Bowl titles, he could be viewed as more dispensable from an internal perspective.

Moreover, it’s worth mentioning that the Chiefs have granted Sneed permission to explore trade options if a long-term contract extension cannot be reached

within the next two weeks. This development adds an intriguing element to monitor closely.

Jones, 29, has been sensational since Kansas City drafted him in the second round out of Mississippi State in 2016. Over the last six seasons, he has 152 quarterback hits, 68 tackles for loss, and 67 sacks.

Any new contract for Jones before free agency would most likely cost the Chiefs more than $30 million per year for at least four seasons.
