‘Good value’… Eni Aluko says Leeds United have completed an ‘unbelievable’ bit of transfer business recently

Last night, Leeds United shown their ability to compete with some of the top teams in the Premier League.

A significantly altered At Stamford Bridge, Conor Gallagher’s strike in the 90th minute was the only thing separating Leeds XI from a multimillion-pound Chelsea team.

Mateo Joseph scored his first two goals for the team, and Archie Gray outperformed a £200 million midfield to win Man of the Match. Two young Leeds players stole the show that evening.

However, one player in particular will have been eager to impress before the game: Ethan Ampadu, who Leeds acquired from Chelsea for a meager £7 million after he was hardly given a chance.

Ampadu performed as though he was trying to make a statement, even though

that has been his playing style the entire season. Eni Aluko said on ITV Sport prior

to the game that he has proven to be an excellent businessman.

Aluko hails Leeds summer signing Ampadu

She said: “We talk about price tags, Ampadu bought for £7 million from Chelsea, that’s good value isn’t it? He’s been unbelievable. He’s a midfielder who has dropped back into centre-back but great signing for Leeds, he has been really strong.”

Ampadu was one of those players lost in the loan system at Chelsea and it is clear to see what having a permanent home has done for his confidence.

From the opening whistle in August, the 23-year-old established himself as one of Leeds’ finest players right away. He has since developed even further, donning the captain’s armband in recent games.

You would not have claimed that Chelsea’s two midfielders were worth £100 million more than Ampadu last night, despite the fact that he has often expressed throughout the season how essential it has been to have a place he can truly call home.

He undoubtedly demonstrated that he is more than prepared to move up to the Premier League should Leeds be promoted this season.
