Chris Paul Reveals Unexpected Trade

Saga From Houston To OKC

Chris Paul, the four-time All-NBA First Team member, was selected with the

fourth overall choice in the first round of the 2005 NBA Draft. The New Orleans

Hornets drafted him, and he played for them from 2005 until 2011.

 

Paul’s next stop was the Los Angeles Clippers, where he played from 2011 till

2017. He later joined the Houston Rocket, and as he mentioned in “The Why With

Dwayne Wade,” among other things, he pursued a trade after 2019.

 

The six-time NBA steals leader revealed,

according TalkBasket.net, “I basically got

myself traded from Houston.” I gave the coach, Dan D’Antoni, and Daryl Morey a

call to let them know that someone might show up and end up joining the club.”

“However, Daryl ended up calling me while I was in Vegas, so that night that started it all was when Paul George and

Kawhi [Leonard] were dealt to the Clippers. Shai traveled to Oklahoma City

for the transfer, while Russell [Westbrook] remained there.I looked up

to Shai [Gilgeous-Alexander] when I saw

him in Vegas. I thought, “This is going to

be good for you; you’re going to get to hoop and do your thing in OKC.”

 

However, recent events in the league, such Kawhi Leonard’s transfer to the Los

Angeles Clippers and the arrival of Paul George, altered the circumstances.

 

Paul also mentioned that while he was in Las Vegas, he unexpectedly received a call from the President Daryl Morey, the

general manager of the Rockets, informed him of the trade rumors

involving him and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Paul was shocked to learn that, in spite of Morey’s promises, he had been traded to

City Thunder. Morey had previously guaranteed Paul that he would not be transferred without his choice.

 

The Point God, who had just moved his family to Houston, voiced his displeasure

with the situation given the abrupt changes in his surroundings.

“I go over to the gym to go work out and Daryl calls me,” he went on.”I was just

calling to make sure you didn’t want to go to OKC,” he stated. “No, why don’t I

move 15 people to Houston,” I exclaimed. “Okay, I was just making sure,” he said.

He said, “Since you came to us from the Clippers, I would never trade you to

somewhere you didn’t want to go.” I decided to fly from LA to Houston.While

relaxing at the house, I was speaking with Jada, Chris’ wife, when I suddenly

received an alert stating that I was being transferred to OKC.”

“My phone then began to ring, and it was Daryl who was calling.” Thus, I’m not sure.”Hey man, it just moves so fast,”

Daryl exclaimed. “It’s all good, but could you please tell me one thing?” I pleaded.

I believe you stated you wouldn’t exchange me. Yes, I did say that, but—”

he said. That’s all I needed to know, I said.
