Done deal: Atlanta falcons are set to sign an incredible player as there is competition between the both players

Could Kirk Cousins get in the way of a Justin Fields trade to Falcons?

According to Zach Klein’s report, “the buzz around the combine” is that Kirk Cousins is the Falcons’ top pick this offseason.

The Falcons never, ever claimed they “will” sign Cousins.

I only mentioned the talk about the combine. According to front office executives, agents, and league scouts, Cousins is the Falcons’ top quarterback option.

I haven’t had any conversations with Falcons personnel.

This offseason, Cousins, 35, is possibly the best quarterback available as a free agency. Having appeared in just eight games in 2023, he suffered an Achilles tear in the previous season. However, nobody is questioning his ability to hurl the rock just yet following a Pro Bowl 2022 season.

Russell Wilson and Baker Mayfield are predicted to be the other two best quarterbacks available when Cousins leaves. When free agency starts on March 13 and the new league year kicks off, they will have the opportunity to sign.

So what role does Justin Fields play in this whole thing?

It looks like the Bears are in the middle of a quarterback change. As the holders of the first pick in the draft, they are able to select players such as Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, and others. They have to choose between starting over with a new quarterback and sticking with Fields, as they did the previous year after trading the first pick to the Panthers.

A league source told Josh Smith of NBC Sports Chicago Schrock, the Falcons have contacted the Bears regarding Fields. Although the extent of those discussions is unknown, there’s a good chance they’ll resume in Indianapolis this week.

Fields is a Georgia native and the Falcons have alluded to their interest in him since the NFL combine began.

“You want to go get the best fit for your people, you want to get the best fit for your coaches, you want to go get the best fit for our city, and you want to do all those things,” Falcons head coach Raheem Morris told CBS Sports at the NFL Scouting Combine about Atlanta’s QB search. “There’s nothing ruled out. I forgot to mention trades, because all of those things come into play. We’ve really been tedious, we’ve really been going through the process of how we are going to acquire the best fit for us.”

Morris knew his comments would turn heads, yet he doubled down on the Falcons’ importance to gain a leader for the team and the city.

“People are going to read into those words or whatever – however they do those things,” Morris said. “There are people that are from Atlanta. There are people from around Atlanta. You can name the milage of how close some of those people are. You got to do what’s best and what’s right for your team at the right time. We won’t rule out anything until we have to make those decisions at that date.”

In any case, there is a good chance that Fields will end up with the Falcons. Twice in the last week, they’ve gone from being unfavored to -300 to -425.

Is it possible for Poles to persuade Terry Fontenot to give Fields some draft picks? Or will the Bears even decide to use Fields in that manner? Pay attention.
