Mayfield vs. Cousins: Which QB Is More Likely to Join Falcons?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are currently favored to re-sign Baker Mayfield, their quarterback, while the Atlanta Falcons,

their NFC South rival, are reportedly interested in Kirk Cousins from the Minnesota Vikings.

Meanwhile, speculation persists about the possibility of Justin Fields returning to his home state of Georgia, although the circumstances remain unclear as the Chicago Bears mull over trading him.

Adding to the mix, there’s speculation that the Falcons could pursue Mayfield, with NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero

suggesting they could be a “dark horse” for his services. Pelissero noted that Atlanta has various options, including the eighth overall pick in the draft.

The Falcons are exploring all avenues to improve their quarterback situation, considering alternatives to Desmond Ridder. Their new head coach, Raheem

Morris, has been frank about the need for better quarterback play in 2024, indicating a willingness to make changes at the position.

Mayfield had an impressive season, playing a significant role in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ journey to the NFC divisional round of the playoffs. He

racked up 4,044 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions during the regular season.

Cousins, known for his consistent performance, has often been associated with lucrative contracts, although his postseason success has been limited.

Fields, on the other hand, represents untapped potential, especially if he returns to his hometown team.

The Buccaneers prioritize retaining Mayfield, potentially preempting the Falcons’ quarterback search. However, disrupting Tampa Bay’s plans could benefit Atlanta.

Regardless, it appears that Atlanta is poised for a new quarterback leader in the upcoming 2024 season.
