Could the Rams trade for Chiefs’ star cornerback?

The Kansas City Chiefs have officially placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on standout cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, preventing him from entering the open

market next week. However, despite this move, Sneed’s return to the Super Bowl-winning Chiefs next season remains uncertain. The non-exclusive franchise

tag allows Sneed to engage in trade discussions with other teams, and given the Chiefs’ limited cap space, there’s a possibility that Sneed could end up

playing elsewhere in September. If the Chiefs decide to make Sneed available, the Los Angeles Rams should express interest in acquiring the star cornerback.

Fresh off a surprising playoff appearance, the Rams are eager to take the next step towards contention.

However, to achieve this goal, they must address their secondary, which proved to be a weakness last season.

The Rams ranked in the bottom half of the league in various passing statistics

last season, highlighting the urgency to bolster their cornerback position. With Ahkello Witherspoon, who led the team

with 14 defended passes, set to hit free agency, and a young cornerback group, the Rams’ need for Sneed’s talents becomes even more apparent. Sneed’s

impressive record of not allowing a single touchdown in coverage during the regular season underscores his value as a game-changer in the secondary.

Furthermore, his two Super Bowl championships add invaluable championship experience to the Rams’ roster.

Despite the significant financial investment required to secure Sneed’s

services, the Rams are well-positioned to meet his contract demands, boasting nearly $44 million in available cap space.

Given Sneed’s superior skill set compared to other available free-agent cornerbacks this offseason, it wouldn’t

come as a surprise if Rams general manager Les Snead decides to pursue him aggressively in their quest to elevate the team’s performance.
