Leeds United reason for missing out on Kieffer Moore signing to Ipswich Town revealed

In a conversation with Football League World on Tuesday (5 March), the pundit mentioned that the Tractor Boys had agreed to cover most of the Welsh international’s weekly salary, ranging from £40,000 to £45,000, which posed a challenge for the Whites.

He considers the 31-year-old would have been a perfect addition to Daniel Farke’s team as he has proven to be a “remarkable signing” for their competitors in the promotion race, aiding them in returning to winning form in recent weeks after a downturn in January.

“Ipswich is currently enjoying a strong run of form,” Palmer remarked. “Following a slight setback, they have climbed back into second place by

securing victories in their last five matches. This resurgence has coincided with the loan acquisition of Kieffer Moore, who has made an outstanding start to his loan stint with five goals in seven Championship appearances.”

“It has been an exceptional signing. Sunderland and Leeds were interested in him, but Ipswich apparently agreed to

cover the majority of his salary, which was a stumbling block for Sunderland and Leeds, as he was reportedly earning £40,000-£45,000 per week, a significant sum for the other clubs.”

Considering their interest in him, he would have been an excellent addition, given his success with Ipswich, who are now only three points behind Leicester. Leicester has suffered three consecutive losses. I initially thought they were in a secure position, but now Ipswich is closing in on them with aspirations of securing consecutive promotions.

There’s no denying Moore’s quality as a Championship striker, and he could contribute significantly. However, Leeds already have a surplus of attacking options. Patrick Bamford has regained his form since the beginning of the year,

Georginio Rutter consistently impresses, and Joel Piroe adds a goal-scoring threat. Given this, Moore wouldn’t have been

assured of regular playing time. It’s unlikely Leeds would invest such a hefty sum in a player who might not immediately secure a starting position.

However, Moore has accomplished just that at Ipswich, netting five goals in seven games since returning to Portman Road, where he previously played six

years ago. While his impact could be significant in shaping the promotion race this season, particularly considering how he’s revitalized Ipswich’s form lately, he shouldn’t be regarded as a missed opportunity for Leeds.
