‘Just ridiculous’: Sky Sports pundit now gives score prediction for Southampton v Sunderland

‘Ridiculous’… Sky Sports pundit gives score prediction for Southampton v Sunderland

After losing 1-0 to Leicester City in the middle of the week, Mike Dodds’ team enters this match on the heels of a five-game losing run.

The Black Cats could lose their sixth straight game for the first time since the 2005–06 campaign. They are now one of just three clubs in Europe’s top divisions to have lost their past five games.

Southampton, on the other hand, is currently ranked fourth in the standings after defeating Birmingham City 4-3 last weekend to snap a three-match losing streak in all competitions.

David Prutton predicts 3-1 win for Southampton against Sunderland

When predicting this weekend’s scores, Sky Sports commentator David Prutton supported the Saints to win all three games at St Mary’s.

He said, projecting a 3-1 victory at home.

“Southampton is now outside of the top three because they did not play during the midweek. The speed among the leading pack is almost absurd, so they really can’t afford one mistake between now and the finish of the season.

“The Southland is drifting badly.” After five straight losses, they are fortunate to still have a substantial cushion around the bottom; otherwise, things would get concerning. I don’t think they will get anything at St. Mary’s the way things are going, but you never know.”

Bad to worse for Mike Dodds and Sunderland

As Prutton notes, Sunderland is currently sliding quite a bit.

Sunderland is currently in free fall and is one point closer to the bottom three than the top six. Should the bottom clubs continue to win, Sunderland may encounter difficulties in the near future.

With only nine points separating Sunderland from the bottom three, there are still thirty points up for grabs. A couple more losses would undoubtedly narrow that margin, at which point things would become heated.

And traveling to Southampton doesn’t actually make things any easier, especially in light of the postponement of the Saints’ midweek match.

Sunderland just feel a little bit limp without Jack Clarke in the lineup. They don’t have that killer instinct, and Luis Hemir’s poor performance at the moment doesn’t help either.

Sunderland would benefit slightly if they could score this weekend; if they could learn anything from the match, it would be a huge accomplishment.

The game starts on Saturday at 3 p.m.
