Official Done deal:The commanders signed TE. Zach Ertz
|The commanders signed TE. Zach Ertz
The Washington Commanders completed their first offseason signing by securing tight end Zach Ertz on a one-year
contract worth up to $5 million. Although not the dominant force he once was with the Philadelphia Eagles, Ertz brings valuable experience to a team seeking
improved production in the tight end position. In 2023, he played seven games for the Arizona Cardinals, accumulating 27 catches for 187 yards and a
touchdown before being released. Ertz had a resurgence under Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury
during his time with the Cardinals in 2021, contributing 56 catches, 574 yards, and three touchdowns in 11 games. Despite being past his prime at 33, Ertz’s
reliability as a target could benefit Washington’s quarterback situation, especially given his familiarity with Kingsbury.
The Commanders have lacked a dependable tight end for quite some time. If Ertz can maintain his health and
replicate his previous success under Kingsbury’s guidance, he might be the missing piece Washington’s offense has been searching for.
