Sean Dyche dropped Sir Alex Ferguson’s insult after Manchester United left him furious.

Everton manager Sean Dyche will lead his team to Old Trafford this weekend to face Manchester United, marking over five years since a heated incident involving him and Sir Alex Ferguson.

In January 2019, while managing Burnley, Dyche famously mocked “Fergie time” after being denied a crucial win against Manchester United. This occurred early in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure as United’s manager, during which he had won each of his first six games.

During the match at Old Trafford, Dyche’s Burnley side took a 2-0 lead with goals from Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood. Despite United’s late surge, Burnley managed to maintain their two-goal advantage as the game approached its conclusion.

They couldn’t maintain their lead, as a Paul Pogba penalty and a late goal from Victor Lindelof secured a draw for the hosts, leaving Dyche frustrated by the amount of stoppage time added.

“I was particularly frustrated by the added time,” Dyche remarked after the match. “Where did five minutes come from? I’m baffled. We’re all familiar with ‘Fergie time’ and its psychological impact. If it had been three minutes, the fans might have doubted it was enough time, but five gave them the boost they needed.”

His dissatisfaction extended to the penalty awarded to Man United, with

Jesse Lingard’s fall under a challenge irking him. “I just don’t like it when players go down so easily,” he explained.

“Players are incredibly robust nowadays, yet a slight touch can send them tumbling. But it seems to be accepted as part of the game.”

Since that encounter, Dyche has struggled against United, winning just

one out of the last eight matches and suffering defeat in both fixtures as Everton manager.

Prior to Everton’s 2-0 victory at Old Trafford last season, Man United

manager Erik ten Hag praised Dyche’s work at Goodison Park, acknowledging his team’s physical prowess. “He’s clearly

doing a fantastic job,” ten Hag stated. “Everton’s teams are incredibly fit, and their physical output is impressive, so we need to match that.”
