Sunderland next manager favourite admits Newcastle boss Eddie Howe ‘inspires’ him

Eddie Howe has enjoyed a successful stint so far at Sunderland’s arch-rivals

Will Still, a favorite manager at Sunderland, has acknowledged that, throughout his career, Newcastle United

manager Eddie Howe has served as an inspiration.

Since Michael Beale was fired last month after overseeing just 12 games,

Sunderland has been without a permanent manager. Still is one

contender who is predicted to succeed him at the Stadium of Light.

The 31-year-old head coach of Stade Reims made headlines in the UK last season after leading his team to a

respectable finish in Ligue 1. Prior to their journey to PSG this Sunday, his

team is currently ranked ninth in the French top division.

While most supporters would welcome his appointment, some may not be too interested in learning who inspires him.

Still clarified in an interview with AS: “Everyone inspired me.

“No coach is superior to any other. I believe there are various concepts from

the football world that we can take inspiration from. Not to mention [Carlo]

Ancelotti, who has done some very insane stuff. However, we also have

Eddie Howe in Newcastle, who is an excellent worker.

“You have to try to capture as much information as possible to be able to apply it and not stick to just one style.”

Thus far, Howe’s tenure at St James’ Park has been mainly fruitful.

The Englishman guided the Magpies to the Carabao Cup final and Champions

League qualification the previous season. Newcastle’s team has been severely

damaged by injuries this season, making it challenging for them.

Although it is unlikely that Newcastle will play in the Champions League next

year, they are still vying for the FA Cup, and they will play Manchester City in the

quarterfinals the following weekend. After falling to Southampton 4–2 on

Saturday, Sunderland is currently ranked 12th in the Championship.
