Official Done deal:The Eagles have made a historic free agent signing

The Eagles have made a historic free agent signing

In a groundbreaking move during free agency, the Philadelphia Eagles have secured former New York Jets defensive

end Bryce Huff on a three-year, $51.1 million deal, making history as the richest contract ever awarded to an undrafted non-quarterback. ESPN’s

Adam Schefter reports that this deal positions Huff as the highest-paid undrafted free agent, excluding quarterbacks, in NFL history.

Huff, at 25 years old, made a significant impact as a sack specialist with the Jets last season, recording an impressive 10 sacks despite not starting a single game.

His performance was particularly noteworthy, leading the team in sacks and surpassing his total of 7.5 sacks from his first three seasons in New York.

Brendan Deeg of The Score highlights Huff’s effectiveness in the pass rush, showcasing his remarkable stats: 67 pressures on 334 pass rush snaps, an 86.8

pass-rush grade (the highest on the Jets), a 22.9 pass-rush win percentage (best in the NFL), 10 sacks, and 21 QB hits. Despite only appearing in 42% of

defensive snaps, Huff’s impact was undeniable. This significant signing by the Eagles has been praised as a steal by NFL analysts.

According to Pro Football Focus, Huff boasted a 79.7 defensive grade and an 86.8 pass-rushing grade in the previous

season. These rankings placed him 27th in defensive grade and tied for 10th among all edge rushers for his pass-rushing abilities.

Over his four seasons with the Jets, Huff has accumulated career totals of 65 tackles and 17.5 sacks in 54 games, including seven starts.

The acquisition of Huff provides the Philadelphia Eagles with a viable replacement for veteran edge rushers Haason Reddick and Josh Sweat, both of

whom are currently on the trade market. As reported by Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia, it would be “surprising” if both Reddick and Sweat

return for the upcoming season. The Eagles have been actively exploring trade options for their starting edge rushers in recent weeks, and the

addition of Huff is expected to further fuel this process. Additionally, the Eagles extended veteran Brandon Graham on a one-year deal late last week.

The Dallas Cowboys have shown “interest” in acquiring Haason Reddick, according to information from Sports Illustrated’s Mike Fisher. Reddick, known

for his proficiency in sacks, recorded 11 sacks in the 2023 season and led the Philadelphia Eagles with 16 sacks in the 2022 season.

Fisher notes that the Cowboys have “respect” for Reddick, and sources suggest that both Dallas and Jacksonville are “interested” in exploring a potential move for the sack artist.

However, there are two significant hurdles to a potential Reddick trade. Firstly, it seems unlikely that the Eagles would have any inclination to trade

Reddick to their arch-rivals, regardless of the draft capital the Cowboys might offer. Secondly, for salary cap reasons, trading Reddick would make more sense

after June 1. If the Eagles trade him after that date, they would save $16 million, while a trade before June 1 would result in a more modest savings of $1.3 million.

Therefore, the most plausible scenario for a move involving Reddick and the Cowboys may be if the Eagles decide to release him.
