Unbelievable:A promising lefty could be the reason the Phillies aren’t pursuing top starters.

A promising lefty could be the reason the Phillies aren’t pursuing top starters.

As one navigates through daily Major League Baseball updates, the names Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery consistently emerge. These two prominent unsigned pitchers are

reportedly connected to various teams, with the Philadelphia Phillies being one of them. Adding either of these pitchers would undoubtedly bolster the Phillies’

pitching staff. While Philadelphia boasts impressive starters like Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, and Ranger Suarez, the performances of Taijuan Walker and

Cristopher Sanchez from the previous season were commendable, yet their positions are not secure, and they are aware of the competition.

“I find motivation in working harder, consistently earning their trust each time,” Sanchez shared with Scott Lauber

of The Philadelphia Inquirer. Throughout the previous season, Sanchez underwent rapid development, impressively delivering a 3.32 ERA across

17 starts following his promotion from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in June. His increased effectiveness was notably attributed to enhanced command,

particularly evident in his diverse range of off-speed pitches. This strategic evolution in his pitching approach yielded overwhelmingly positive results.

“We’ve progressed by focusing less on velocity and honing our command of the strike zone,” Sanchez explained. “However, I believe I can further enhance my game by combining velocity

with precise command.” While he cannot influence free agent signings or trades, Sanchez acknowledges that adding pitchers like Snell or Montgomery would bolster the Phillies’ roster. Nonetheless,

Sanchez remains committed to showcasing his ongoing improvement during spring training, aiming to demonstrate to Philadelphia his readiness to elevate his performance.

While quick fixes through free agency can be beneficial, player development often yields long-term success. Sanchez’s dedication to improvement and

consistent execution highlight his promising trajectory. While Snell and Montgomery capture headlines, Sanchez quietly continues to progress.
