Just in:Mauricio Pochettino explains why he and the Chelsea transfer director were spotted in the crowd at Brighton

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino and former Brighton transfer specialist

Paul Winstanley were seen in attendance at the Amex Stadium during the Brighton vs. Roma Europa League match. Despite

Brighton securing a 1-0 victory with Danny Welbeck’s impressive first-half goal, they were eliminated 4-1 on aggregate by the Italian side. Pochettino

and Winstanley’s presence sparked speculation of a scouting expedition for Chelsea.

“No, it’s not my responsibility to scout,” responded Pochettino. “We attended because in three weeks, we’re facing Brighton in Brighton. It was also an

opportunity to watch live football, as our schedules are tight. We enjoy watching football in our free time, and since the stadium is only 45 minutes from Cobham, we decided to go last minute.

“It was refreshing to be spectators and simply enjoy the game instead of being on the touchline. It was beneficial to observe both Roma and Brighton play.”

Chelsea has recently been active in signing talent from Brighton, including Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, and Robert Sanchez, along with several staff

members transitioning from Brighton to Chelsea. Brighton is scheduled to face Chelsea at the Amex Stadium in the Premier League on April 20th.
