Jets insider reveals surprising aspect of Tyrod Taylor’s contract.

The New York Jets recognized the necessity of enhancing their offense to remain competitive in the AFC in the upcoming season.

Anticipating Aaron Rodgers’ availability for the start of the next season, the Jets made significant investments in fortifying their offensive line.

New York made moves to reinforce their offensive line by acquiring tackle Morgan Moses via trade, signing guard

John Simpson, and securing left tackle Tyron Smith, aiming to provide Rodgers with improved protection.

Additionally, addressing the need for a backup quarterback became crucial, particularly after witnessing Zach Wilson’s performances in his limited starts.

The Jets successfully addressed this concern by signing Tyrod Taylor to serve as Rodgers’ backup.

According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Tyrod Taylor secured a favorable contract with the New York Jets, with details revealing substantial guaranteed money.

“Tyrod Taylor’s contract has a base value of 2 years/$12M, featuring $8.5M guaranteed and a $2.8M cap charge for 2024. The relatively low cap charge is

attributed to three void years. Taylor’s guarantee is notable, as among all free-agent backup quarterbacks, only Gardner Minshew ($15M) and Sam

Darnold ($8.75M) received larger guarantees, potentially positioning them as interim starters,” Cimini tweeted.

Although Taylor may be past his prime, he provides a dependable option should Rodgers be sidelined again, offering

more reliability than Wilson. However, the Jets’ playoff aspirations largely rely on Rodgers’ ability to stay healthy and perform consistently.
