Injury has cost  Julius Randle alot as he  miss huge Bonus allowance

New York Knicks standout Julius Randle has officially missed out on a potential $1.28 million bonus.

As reported by Bobby Marks of ESPN, Randle’s contract included a clause entitling him to a $1.28 million salary

bonus if he played a minimum of 65 games this season and if the Knicks advanced to the first round of the playoffs.

With Randle sitting out the recent game against Philadelphia, he will now forego the $1.28 million bonus. This incentive

was contingent on meeting the criteria of playing 65 games and the Knicks making it to the postseason.

Unfortunately, due to an ongoing shoulder injury, Randle has fallen short of the required number of NBA games to

qualify for the bonus. He has started in 46 games during the 2023-24 season, leaving only 18 games remaining for the

Knicks. The team remains hopeful that Randle will return to action and participate in these remaining games.

Randle has been sidelined for 21 consecutive games since sustaining a shoulder injury on January 27. Before the injury, he played a pivotal role in the

Knicks’ success, contributing to their impressive 14-2 record in January, which placed them at the top of the league during that period. However, according

to SNY’s Ian Begley, Randle has yet to receive clearance for contact activities, raising concerns about his recovery progress.

This development is concerning for the Knicks, especially since O.G. Anunoby is nearing his return after being cleared for contact several weeks ago. This suggests

that Randle may require additional time before making his comeback. Anunoby recently returned to action after being sidelined for over a month.

Randle has been averaging 24 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 5 assists per game across 46 games played this season. The Knicks

have achieved a record of 29-17 with Randle in the lineup, whereas they have struggled with an 8-10 record in games without him. This underscores the

importance of Randle’s presence for the team, especially considering their playoff aspirations may hinge on his return to full fitness.

Randle inked a four-year contract extension in 2021 valued at $117 million, which includes various bonus incentives such as earning selections to the All-Star

and All-Defensive teams, playing a minimum of 65 games per season, and contributing to the Knicks’ playoff success.

Last season, Randle successfully met the criteria for the All-Star selection and

playing 65 games, earning him bonuses. Additionally, he received a $1.38 million bonus in February for being named to the All-Star reserves.

Marks reported that the Knicks will be granted a tax variance credit valued at $1.28 million, which will be utilized to

offset the team’s salary subject to taxation. As the bonus is now considered “unlikely” for the upcoming season,

Randle’s cap hit of $30.3 million will decrease to $28.9 million, providing the team with a slight increase in cap flexibility for the following season.

However, Randle’s return for the current season remains uncertain, casting doubt on his availability. With the bonus

incentive already forfeited, it raises more questions than answers about his potential comeback.
