Breaking:Why Roberto De Zerbi is the key to Brighton pursuit of Arsenal star
|Why Roberto De Zerbi’s is the key to Brighton pursuit of Arsenal star
Nelson has seen his status decline at Arsenal this season. Despite signing a long-term contract extension in the
summer of 2023, the winger has yet to start a Premier League match for the North London club.
The 24-year-old appears poised to depart the Emirates in search of more playing time, with Romano disclosing that
Brighton & Hove Albion are poised to renew their interest in the former England under-21 international.
Albion had expressed interest in acquiring Nelson for the Amex Stadium prior to his contract extension, and the club purportedly still values the player.
However, Romano suggests that the potential transfer of Nelson hinges on the future of Seagulls head coach De Zerbi. The 44-year-old has been linked
with several prestigious positions across Europe, including managerial roles at Liverpool, Manchester United, and FC Barcelona. This interest has arisen
following his success in guiding Brighton to the round of 16 in the UEFA Europa League during the club’s inaugural European campaign.
According to Romano, it will be essential to ascertain the Italian’s plans before Brighton pursues transfers for “top targets” like Nelson.
In his Daily Briefing, Romano notes that Reiss Nelson is once again being linked
with a potential departure, having struggled for playing time at Arsenal this season. Brighton has shown interest in
the player, as they sought his acquisition last summer before he opted to extend his contract with Arsenal.
However, the pursuit of top targets like Nelson hinges on understanding the future of Brighton’s head coach, Roberto De Zerbi. Romano emphasizes the
importance of determining whether De Zerbi will remain with the club or move to another position before making transfer decisions.
Nelson has accumulated 88 appearances for Arsenal since breaking into the first
team in 2017, registering eight goals and nine assists. Additionally, he has gained experience on loan at TSG Hoffenheim in
Germany and Feyenoord in the Netherlands, where he was part of the UEFA Europa Conference League runners-up squad in the 2021-22 season.
