Former Hull City, Aston Villa and Celtic star ‘ set for a coaching job

Former Hull City, Aston Villa and Celtic star ‘in the frame’ for Watford job

Former Hull City, Aston Villa and Celtic playmaker Shaun Maloney is reportedly in the frame to become Watford’s next permanent head coach.
The Hornets have a history for making hiring and firing decisions. Most recently, they took back control and fired former Barnsley manager Valerien Ismael.
Afterwards, Watford is currently mired in mid-table obscurity under temporary manager Tom Cleverley, a former England international. Even though Cleverley has taken over as manager, Watford will be making plans for the upcoming campaign.
Football Insider claims that Maloney is a contender for the position. Having rejoined the team he played for in January 2023, he is currently in charge of Wigan Athletic.
He had coached in Celtic’s youth and assisted Roberto Martinez as manager of the Belgium national team before taking the helm of Hibernian.
It would not be shocking to see the 41-year-old go up to the Championship in the near future, though it is unclear if Watford would make a move for Maloney.
He has done a fantastic job of guiding Wigan, developing young players including the highly regarded goalkeeper
Sam Tickle. The Latics are now 13 points outside of the play-offs but comfortably
clear of the relegation zone in the League One standings, occupying the 11th spot.
