Nottingham Forest are facing the threat of a second Premier League points deduction.

To prevent another points deduction, Nottingham Forest may need to sell one of their key players next summer. The club fell into the relegation zone

following the Premier League’s announcement of a four-point deduction due to breaching profit and sustainability rules (PSR). Expressing

“extreme disappointment,” Forest stated that the decision has damaged their trust and confidence in the Premier League.

They were found to have exceeded their spending by £34.5 million over a three-

year period, and reports suggest that Forest are on the verge of breaching PSR again. The recent judgment regarding

the points deduction revealed that Forest are projecting losses of approximately £12-17 million for the year ending June 30, 2024.

Forest were discovered to have exceeded their spending by £34.5 million over a three-year period, and according to

reports from The Times, they are on the brink of breaching PSR again. The recent judgment regarding the points deduction

revealed that Forest are “projecting to realize losses of approximately £12-17 million for the year ending June 30, 2024.”

According to The Times, this would elevate the club’s total losses over the

past three seasons to somewhere between £104 million and £109 million, surpassing their maximum allowable

loss of £82 million. Consequently, Forest need to generate approximately £30 million in profit from player sales this summer.

Forest did generate a substantial profit by selling Brennan Johnson to Tottenham last summer for a club-record £47.5 million. This transaction resulted in pure

profit for Forest since Johnson was a product of their academy, which would have prevented a PSR breach had the sale occurred earlier.

Recognizing the need to make a significant sale before the June 30 deadline to adhere to financial

regulations, Forest considered the delayed sale of Johnson a “close call.” Atletico Madrid proposed a £42.9 million

offer for the forward on June 30, but Forest countered by requesting £55.8 million instead.

Brentford faced several rejected bids in July and August before reaching an agreement for Johnson to transfer to

Spurs. However, the independent commission responsible for determining Forest’s penalty dismissed their assertion of a “near miss.”
