Done deal: Michigan wolverines have added two new coaching staffs

Michigan wolverines have added a new coaching staff

Pernell McPhee, a former defensive lineman for the Baltimore Ravens, has secured a new position within the college

football realm. It has been revealed that McPhee will be assisting the defensive staff of the Michigan Wolverines. With a seven-season tenure with the Ravens and

11 seasons in the NFL, where he amassed 38 sacks as an outside linebacker, McPhee retired after the 2021 season. Notably, he played under Michigan’s new

defensive coordinator, Wink Martindale, from 2019 to 2021. Following McPhee’s appointment, former Ravens starting offensive lineman Matt Skura expressed

his approval, citing McPhee’s infectious personality as a valuable asset that will invigorate players, staff, and the organization as a whole.

Michigan recently clinched its first national championship in 26 years, largely credited to its outstanding

defense. With the addition of McPhee, who is said to possess coaching qualities from his NFL experience, the team’s

defensive prowess is expected to persist. Interestingly, McPhee previously triumphed over Michigan’s current championship head coach, Jim

Harbaugh, when his Ravens defeated Harbaugh’s San Francisco 49ers in the 2013 Super Bowl. This upcoming season marks the first time in eight years that

Harbaugh won’t be coaching Michigan, as he recently returned to the NFL as the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. Martindale and McPhee aim to aid the

Wolverines in pursuing a consecutive national championship, a feat not achieved by a Big Ten team since Nebraska in 1994 and 1995.
