Very Bad News:Philadelphia eagles Coach is facing serious allegations and is set to be ….

Penn State’s James Franklin addresses Saquon Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles tampering allegations.

James Franklin discussed his involvement in the tampering

accusations involving the Philadelphia Eagles and the signing of former Penn State standout Saquon Barkley.

Speaking after Tuesday’s practice at Holuba Hall, Franklin addressed the

media for the first time since his press conference last Tuesday, during which his comments sparked the allegations.

During the session, Franklin concurred with Barkley’s assessment that he misinterpreted what he believed was a

direct conversation between the free agent running back and Eagles general manager Howie Roseman.

“I had a 10-minute conversation with Saquon, and I just assumed and connected the dots that weren’t there,” Franklin stated. “All those conversations went through his agent.”

Last week, reports surfaced that the NFL was investigating whether the Eagles engaged in tampering while negotiating with Barkley. The former New York

Giants running back agreed to a three-year contract last Monday when the NFL’s negotiating period began.

The Eagles denied any improper contact with Barkley following comments made by Franklin during last Tuesday’s spring media day that garnered attention league-wide.

Responding to a question about Barkley signing with the Eagles, Franklin mentioned: “For him now to come back and be able to play within the state in

Philadelphia, he said that was one of the first things that (Eagles general manager) Howie (Roseman) said to him on the phone as part of kind of his sales pitch to

him was not only the Philadelphia Eagles and that, but obviously the connection with Penn State and the fan bases, as well.”

During the NFL’s negotiating period, from last Monday through last

Wednesday, any direct contact between Barkley and the Eagles would have been impermissible. General managers are allowed to speak to players’ agents. If

they communicate directly with a player beyond that, it constitutes tampering, which could result in penalties for the team (fines, loss of draft picks, etc.).

Barkley refuted the tampering allegations at his introductory press conference in Philadelphia last Thursday, stating that Franklin “misinterpreted” the situation.

“The truth was the sales pitch to Penn State, how many Penn State fans are Philadelphia Eagles fans,” Barkley

elaborated. “But that was through my agent and my agent told me that. It happens. I’m going to let Philly handle that.”

The following day, Barkley returned to campus for Penn State’s pro day, where

he showed support for the Nittany Lions participating in the event. He was present at Holuba Hall last Friday and

also engaged in workouts at the Lasch Building, offering guidance to Penn State running backs Nick Singleton, Kaytron Allen, and others.

Barkley’s connection with Franklin and Penn State spans several years. Initially

committed to Rutgers, Barkley switched allegiance in February 2014 to join Franklin’s inaugural full recruiting class. Excelling as a freshman in 2015, Barkley

continued to impress as a sophomore and junior in 2016 and 2017 before being selected as the second overall pick by the Giants in the 2018 NFL draft

Barkley, who remains a beloved figure among fans, has maintained a close relationship with Franklin, who, along

with his wife Fumi, has provided guidance and support to the young athlete. Last year, Franklin and his wife engaged in a “lengthy conversation” with

Barkley during his negotiations with the Giants, which ultimately led to Barkley signing a one-year deal to address concerns about a holdout.

This offseason, the Giants opted not to use the franchise tag on Barkley and

reportedly did not present him with a new contract offer, allowing the star running back to enter free agency.

Consequently, Barkley decided to join the Philadelphia Eagles, where he will retain his familiar jersey number, 26.
