Former Everton executive Keith Wyness has suggested that Nottingham Forest might have a “side deal” with the

Premier League that could explain why they won’t appeal their four-point deduction.

Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old, who previously served as CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and

currently operates a football consultancy advising elite clubs, proposed that the Midlands club’s recent angry statement might have been merely “for show.”

In response to the deduction earlier in the week, Nottingham Forest expressed being “extremely dismayed” at the

independent commission’s ruling to dock points. They stated that the decision has “harmed the trust and confidence” of the club in the Premier League.

While Forest did not explicitly state their intention to appeal, Wyness remarked that he would be “very surprised” if they chose to do so.

Speaking on Football Insider’s Insider Track podcast, Wyness speculated: “What’s intriguing to me is whether

Forest will proceed with an appeal. They have a seven-day window to decide. Despite releasing a strongly worded

statement following the deduction, part of me wonders if they’ll abstain from appealing. It’s possible they’ve negotiated a tacit agreement with the Premier

League to have the deduction reduced to four points in exchange for forgoing an appeal. There seems to be something underlying here. The statement struck

me as more of a spectacle. I would be genuinely surprised if they chose to appeal. I could be mistaken, but my inclination is that they won’t.”

Their legal representative, Nick De Marco KC, presented their argument

convincingly, and it would be unexpected if he advised them to pursue an appeal.

In additional updates, Nottingham Forest’s disclosure of a £12 million reveal prompted a sharp reaction from Kieran Maguire.
