Atlanta Falcons may turn to the trade market to solve their main need.

With the addition of Kirk Cousins and several more playmakers, the Atlanta

Falcons have addressed many areas of concern, leaving the primary focus on improving Raheem Morris’ defense. With

the eighth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Falcons are well-positioned to acquire one of the top prospects. Additionally, given that their

quarterback situation is secure for the next two seasons, there’s no urgency to select another quarterback in the first round.

This allows the Falcons the flexibility to target a player who addresses their specific needs. However, wouldn’t it be preferable if the Falcons had even

greater flexibility to select the best available player overall, rather than being constrained to a particular position?

Last season, the Falcons struggled defensively, ranking 21st in the league with an average of 2.5 sacks per game. As

of 2024, they haven’t made any significant additions to their front seven or defense to address their pass rush deficiency. Apart from the coaching

change, the Falcons are primarily relying on internal improvement, which may not be sufficient for a team aiming for the playoffs.

While the NFL Draft presents an opportunity to acquire future talent, relying on rookies to immediately impact

the team can be uncertain. On the other hand, acquiring established players offers a more reliable solution.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler suggests that the Falcons could explore the trade market

to bolster their edge rusher position, with reports linking them to Philadelphia’s Haason Reddick.

“The consensus across the league is that Haason Reddick is expected to be traded. With the Eagles acquiring Brandon Graham, re-signing Josh Sweat, and

securing Bryce Huff with a lucrative $51 million contract, Reddick finds himself surplus to requirements. Despite his impressive back-to-back Pro Bowl

seasons, the 29-year-old is unlikely to fetch a top draft pick in exchange. A Day 2 selection should be sufficient.

While acquiring Reddick wouldn’t necessarily preclude the Falcons from drafting another pass-rusher with the

eighth overall pick, his addition would alleviate the immediate need to do so. This would provide more flexibility, enabling them to consider trading down if a compelling offer arises. Alternatively,

pairing Reddick with another pass-rusher would greatly enhance the front seven’s capabilities and set them up for success in the 2024 season.”
