The Rock calls WWE’s profanity double standard report “complete horseshit.”

Rumors are circulating within the WWE community regarding dissatisfaction

among talent regarding a perceived double standard on profanity in television and social media promotions,

particularly following instances of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson using explicit language like “fuck your story” towards Cody Rhodes. Allegedly, some

members of the locker room are questioning this apparent inconsistency, especially as The Rock’s more explicit

remarks coincided with a memo from management stressing the importance of maintaining a PG rating.

Following a more provocative promo by Rhodes on the March 18 episode of Raw,

it appeared as though these rumors may have been strategically leaked to portray Cody as defying management and to

intensify the buildup to his WrestleMania XL feud involving The Rock, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and others. Despite attempts to dismiss them,

these rumors resurfaced on March 22, following their recap and elaboration in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

In 2024, every piece of wrestling news from various media outlets, also known

as “dirt sheets,” is aggregated by numerous social media accounts for engagement. It was through one of these

platforms that Johnson responded to emphatically deny the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s report.

The message behind The Rock’s response to Wrestlelamia’s tweet is clear, but it’s

uncertain whether Wrestlelamia accurately conveyed the information from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON).

While Dave Meltzer’s writing can sometimes be ambiguous, the latest Newsletter suggests that it’s not

necessarily that TKO is unhappy about The Rock not adhering to their memo. Instead, talent believes that The Rock

should be setting an example by adhering to the memo, given his position and influence within the company.

According to the WON, talent was informed that due to the company being publicly traded and TKO management’s

preference for a TV-PG rating, there was an expectation for The Rock to follow the rules as a board member.

This situation resembles a modern version of the Telephone Game, where information becomes increasingly convoluted. The use of strong language

like “complete horseshit” in The Rock’s response is likely aimed at shutting down the entire story. His focus on refuting the

“Vince McMahon era” remark from an anonymous source suggests that he’s challenging the notion of double standards within the company.

The outcome of this situation remains to be seen. For now, The Rock’s tweet has brought attention to the story, but in the fast-paced online environment, it’s likely to fade from prominence quickly.
