Bad News:Braves first Baseman’s power numbers in a serious danger as.. ….

Will 2024 see a decline in the star first baseman’s power numbers for the Braves?

In the previous season, Braves first baseman Matt Olson topped Major

League Baseball in home runs, but the question looms whether he can replicate that feat this year.

As Spring Training winds down and teams gear up for the World Series push, Atlanta’s formidable offense aims to maintain its dominance.

Recently, FanGraphs unveiled their projections for the 2024 home run

leaders, revealing two Braves players among the top 10. However, their positions on the list raised eyebrows.

In the previous season, Olson smashed 54 home runs, leading the league.

According to FanGraphs, he is predicted to rank fourth, trailing Aaron Judge, Pete Alonso, and Kyle Schwarber.

Olson also led all MLB players in home runs during the 2023 Spring Training, signaling his early prowess.

While Aaron Judge’s potential to achieve leading power figures is contingent on his health, Olson holds an advantage over Pete Alonso and Kyle Schwarber.

Pete Alonso is poised to anchor the Mets’ lineup, emerging as one of the few formidable threats in their batting order.

Consequently, pitchers may opt to pitch around him, minimizing opportunities for Alonso to capitalize on favorable pitches and send them out of the ballpark.

Kyle Schwarber is expected to resume his role as the Phillies’ leadoff hitter. Despite his considerable power, leading

the home run leaderboard from the leadoff spot is an arduous task. Even Ronald Acuna Jr., renowned for his leadoff home runs, has yet to achieve this feat.

Matt Olson will benefit from having strong hitters behind him in the lineup, which will compel pitchers to pitch to

him. With Acuna, tied for the seventh-most homers, and Albies batting ahead of him, Olson is likely to face many at-bats with runners on base.

According to Fangraphs ZiPS projection, Olson is forecasted to bat .260 with 37 home runs and 116 RBIs in 2024. While the projected home run total may seem

conservative, some regression is expected after his exceptional previous season. However, the projected batting average may be lower than anticipated.

Although Olson may hit fewer homers than last season, given the difficulty of replicating such a feat, the strong lineup protection around him suggests he will continue to receive hittable pitches.

Matt possesses the ability to hit for power to all areas of the field and

benefits from playing in a hitter-friendly stadium for half of his games. Given these factors, there is no impediment to

Olson potentially retaining his title as the league leader in home runs. It’s possible that FanGraphs overlooked this aspect in their analysis.
