Breaking: Rabbitohs owner Russell Crowe statement on Jason Demetrius sack issue

Following the devastating loss to the Roosters, Russell Crowe reveals his position regarding Souths coach Jason Demetriou’s future and calls for his dismissal.

Russell Crowe, owner of the South Sydney Rabbitohs and renowned Hollywood actor, has expressed his

support for coach Jason Demetriou following a devastating defeat to the Roosters on Friday night.

The Sydney Roosters inflicted the most significant loss of Demetriou’s coaching tenure, securing a 48-6 victory and

sending their rivals to the bottom of the ladder. The match at Allianz Stadium mirrored the Rabbitohs’ previous losses

of the season, characterized by defensive pressure and errors hindering their attacking capabilities.

In response to the defeat, Crowe reached out to club officials via text message,

emphasizing that fortunes can change rapidly in sports, as reported by The Daily Telegraph.

The Rabbitohs’ leadership is anticipating a strong performance from the team over the next three weeks.

Demetriou, who was mentored by Wayne Bennett, expressed his unwavering confidence in his ability to motivate the Rabbitohs out of their current slump.

“It’s my responsibility to lead the team this week and ensure we’re prepared to face Canterbury on Good Friday,” he

stated. “I’ve been part of this group for a long time, so I know them well, and I believe we’re all aligned and working together.”

“I’m fully confident that I can reverse our fortunes, but ultimately, my words won’t matter much in comparison to the results on the field.”

“The criticism is understandable, as we’re not winning matches and our performance is lacking. The key to

making a difference is through our training, our performance next week, and securing some positive results.”

Both Demetriou’s decision to elevate Dean Hawkins to halfback and the choice to bench hooker Damien Cook failed to ignite a turnaround for the Rabbitohs.

“Deano was brought in, and I believe he performed quite well for us,” Demetriou commented. “He’ll improve with more

game time, but ‘Cookie’ started the season with a calf injury, so our focus was on getting him back to full fitness and back to his running game.”

Regarding the composition of next week’s first-grade team, the coach expressed uncertainty about including Ilias, who received high praise from

Demetriou for his exceptional performance in a 28-12 victory over the Roosters in the NSW Cup.

“I’m not sure at this point. We’ll review the game footage, and then we’ll decide on the lineup for next week,” Demetriou stated.
