Raheem Morris confirms Falcons to sign another star player.

We’re just about a month away from the draft, but there’s little debate surrounding the Falcons’ plans for the No. 8 pick.

Atlanta entered the offseason with a primary focus on addressing the quarterback position. Terry Fontenot

initially considered the possibility of trading up in the draft, but he shifted his attention elsewhere when it became

apparent that teams like the Bears, Commanders, and Patriots were not willing to part with their selections.

The Falcons’ top priority was Kirk Cousins. Fontenot, with the support of Arthur Blank, went above and beyond

Minnesota’s offer in contract negotiations, providing more in terms of guarantees, years, and average annual value.

Having addressed the biggest need with the best available option, Fontenot is now positioned to stick to his draft strategy of selecting the top player

available. Dallas Turner remains the consensus choice among mock drafters, including ESPN’s Field Yates, who sees

the pairing as an ideal fit, and Jordan Reid, who selected Turner in the mini mock draft.

Dallas Turner, the Alabama edge rusher, is projected to be selected by the Falcons at No. 8. Atlanta’s top two edge rushers from the previous season, Bud Dupree

(31 years old) and Calais Campbell (37 years old), are both free agents and remain unsigned, leaving a void in the roster. The team has made no efforts to

fill their positions. In 2023, Atlanta ranked tied for 21st in sacks with 42 and had the lowest pass rush win rate in the league at 30.9%, highlighting the urgent

need for youthful talent on the edge. Turner, coming off a 10-sack season, fits the bill perfectly with his agility, length, and explosiveness.

Jordan Reid selects Dallas Turner, EDGE from Alabama, for the Atlanta Falcons at No. 8. With a potent offense bolstered by the acquisition of Cousins, the focus now

shifts to bolstering the defense. Turner addresses the pressing need for a pass-rushing presence and has the potential to step in as a starter from day one.

Numerous draft analysts, including Mel Kiper, Field Yates, Trevor Sikkema, and Jordan Reid, unanimously predict that

the Falcons will draft Dallas Turner, and the reasoning behind this consensus is evident.

Atlanta also has a distinct requirement; their current edge rushers, Arnold Ebiketie, Lorenzo Carter, and DeAngelo

Malone, do not form the most formidable unit. Turner could indeed be the top player available when the Falcons make their selection.

Due to his athletic abilities, he possesses a higher potential ceiling compared to

other prospects in his position group. The Falcons would be banking on this potential, aiming to aid him in reaching

his full capabilities, which could elevate him to the status of a top-tier pass rusher.
