Breaking:49ers GM Reveals details of Aiyuk contract and says he is not available for ….

GM of the 49ers: Contract negotiations are ongoing; Aiyuk is not available for trade.

Observing Michigan’s pro day, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch and Pittsburgh Steelers coach

Mike Tomlin shared a light moment when Tomlin mentioned Niners wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

Speculation surrounding Aiyuk’s future with the team has persisted for over a

year, intensifying this offseason as he approaches the final year of his rookie

contract. Rumors of potential trades have circulated widely, including talks involving Tomlin’s Steelers.

Addressing a small group of reporters during the NFL league meetings on

Monday, Lynch provided his most definitive stance yet: Aiyuk is not on the trading block. Moreover, Lynch revealed

that discussions have commenced with Aiyuk and his representatives regarding a contract extension aimed at securing his long-term future with the team.

“[Tomlin] was like, ‘Hey, what’s happening?'” Lynch recounted with a chuckle. “I can assure you there’s

nothing happening there. We’re actively engaged in discussions with Brandon to find a resolution. We have a track record

of successfully working with players to reach agreements, but it’s a two-way street. So, can we make it happen? We’ll see. There are various possibilities, but

we value Brandon greatly as a player and want him to remain with the Niners. We’re committed to making that happen.”

Meanwhile, Aiyuk shared an Instagram story on Monday afternoon featuring a series of emojis conveying the sentiment, “money talks, nonsense walks.”

The trade rumors regarding Aiyuk have never originated from the 49ers. During last year’s league meetings in Arizona, Lynch confirmed that other teams had

approached the Niners to inquire about trading Aiyuk. However, both Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan rejected those inquiries.

Nevertheless, the discussion persists, largely due to the Niners’ roster becoming increasingly top-heavy. Key players like left tackle Trent Williams,

defensive end Nick Bosa, receiver Deebo Samuel, tight end George Kittle, and linebacker Fred Warner are among the team’s highly paid stars.

The prevailing assumption has been that the 49ers might struggle to secure the talented Aiyuk, who is coming off a

stellar season with 75 receptions, 1,342 yards, and 7 touchdowns, earning him a second-team All-Pro recognition. This is

primarily due to the salary cap constraints caused by existing contracts, including those of other high-profile players.

Currently, Aiyuk is slated to count $14.124 million against the cap in 2024 if

he plays under the fifth-year option exercised by the team last summer. However, a contract extension could

potentially reduce this cap hit, allowing the team to manage future salary obligations more effectively.

John Lynch expressed his desire to reward homegrown talent like Aiyuk, emphasizing the team’s commitment to developing players and seeing them thrive.

While Lynch remains optimistic about reaching a deal with Aiyuk, he

acknowledges the challenges ahead. Negotiating lucrative contract extensions with key players, such as George Kittle,

Fred Warner, Deebo Samuel, and Nick Bosa, has historically been a complex process for the 49ers, often extending into training camp. Aiyuk is seen as part

of the team’s future core, and discussions are ongoing to secure his long-term future with the organization.

Lynch also addressed an accounting error that resulted in a penalty for the team, explaining that the error was related to overpayment to a player

during the 2020 season, which was not discovered until 2022. Despite disagreeing with the severity of the

penalty imposed by the NFL, Lynch emphasized the team’s accountability and commitment to rectifying the situation.

Regarding player injuries, Lynch confirmed that George Kittle and

cornerback Charvarius Ward underwent core muscle surgeries, ruling them out for the offseason program but expected

to return for training camp. He highlighted the success rate of such surgeries and expressed optimism about their recovery.
