Leeds United is reportedly considering a summer move for Celtic midfielder Matt

O’Riley, provided they secure promotion at the end of the season, as per Give Me Sport.

O’Riley, the Denmark international, has been instrumental for Celtic in the

Scottish Premiership this season, justifying the interest he has garnered throughout the 2023/24 campaign.

While Celtic is currently reaping the rewards of his contributions, it seems likely that O’Riley could seek a move elsewhere if he continues to impress.

As the summer transfer window approaches, O’Riley appears to have already caught the attention of clubs

south of the border and beyond, potentially setting the stage for a move in the upcoming transfer period.

Nevertheless, any club interested in acquiring his services will need to pay a

substantial fee, given that the player is still under contract with Celtic for three more years.

While this might deter Championship clubs from completing a deal, Premier League teams have shown interest in the player.

According to the Give Me Sport report, Brighton and Hove Albion and Brentford

are among the clubs showing interest in the 23-year-old midfielder. Born in England, he previously played for MK Dons.

Brighton and Hove Albion have been monitoring him closely and may make a move for the midfielder. However, Roberto De Zerbi’s team and Brentford

could also be contenders in the race. Additionally, Leeds might join the competition if they secure promotion to the top flight.

If promoted, Daniel Farke may have a larger budget to work with in the upcoming summer transfer window, which could enable him to pursue the Danish player for Elland Road.

O’Riley’s club might be open to selling him if the offer meets their valuation, which could provide hope for Leeds and other interested parties in securing a deal during the summer.

However, Leeds’ chances of winning this race might hinge on their promotion to the top flight.

There’s been speculation about Kalvin Phillips possibly returning to Leeds United, and while his move back to Elland Road isn’t confirmed, he could

complement Ethan Ampadu well. However, if Phillips does join, Leeds will require a more attacking player in front of them.

O’Riley could fill that role, providing offensive support while Phillips and Ampadu hold down the midfield. With

them behind him, O’Riley could have the freedom to push forward without worrying too much about defensive duties if possession is lost.

However, Leeds must be cautious not to overspend on O’Riley if they secure promotion, as they’ll need to strengthen other areas as well.
