News Now :Former head coaches said shocking things about Lions New players

What former head coaches said about the new players on the Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions addressed several needs in the first week to 10 days of free agency. While their most notable addition came via trade with Carlton

Davis, they also signed notable outside free agents like Kevin Zeitler, Amik Robertson, DJ Reader, and Marcus Davenport.

The league is currently convening in Orlando for league meetings, with most head coaches participating in what is always an intriguing photo opportunity.

During Monday morning’s media availability for head coaches such as Antonio Pierce, John Harbaugh, and Zac Taylor, who lead the Raiders, Ravens, and Bengals respectively, they discussed

their familiarity with three of the Lions’ recent free agent signings: Robertson, Reader, and Zeitler.

While it’s expected that former coaches won’t disparage former players who have moved on, here’s what each coach

had to say about their respective departed player, as reported by Justin Rogers of the Detroit News.

Robertson emphasized his contributions to the Lions’ secondary, and Pierce echoed this sentiment when asked.

“A ball hawk,” Pierce remarked. “A guy who, you know, you hate to say it, but he’s kind of got a bit of a chip on his shoulder. He plays larger than his stature

suggests. Standing at 5-8 or 5-9, he’s incredibly talented and competitive. It’s tough to see him leave, but I’m very proud of him.”

Taylor had this to say about Reader: “He was an outstanding leader for us, an exceptional player who embodied

everything we wanted in our players and leaders. He consistently delivered both in effort and performance, making crucial plays in important games that we’ll

always remember. I wish D.J. the best of luck, and I know Terrell Williams, the new Lions defensive line coach, will take good care of him.”

“He’s a true champion,” Taylor added. “He’s experienced championship success at Clemson and played a pivotal role in

some significant moments during his time here at Cincinnati. I believe that’s why Detroit is bringing him in.”

And lastly, Harbaugh shared his thoughts on Zeitler, who is seen as a perfect fit for the Lions: “Kevin Zeitler, all about the

game, every single day. Football and baking. I mean, his wife bakes the most amazing treats. Everyone in Detroit and

the entire building is going to enjoy the best baked goods they’ve ever had. But Kevin is an exceptional football player with plenty left in the tank. He’s tough,

physical, and in many ways, he embodied the personality of our team and set the tone for us.”

The Lions’ signings of Robertson, Reader, and Zeitler appear to be ideal fits, a sentiment echoed by their former head coaches.
