Unbelievable :Brian Snitker says this season’s stolen base race will be …..

This season, the stolen base race might be quite open.

Once again, Ronald Acuna Jr. topped the charts in stolen bases last year, marking his second time leading the league in this category. His impressive total of 73 steals

was the highest for a league leader since 2007 when Jose Reyes recorded 78 steals. Repeat winners in this category are not uncommon.

Last season, with the introduction of various rule changes, there was a noticeable uptick in stolen bases across the league, which added excitement to

the game. It also provided teams with opportunities to incorporate different playing styles. Despite Acuna’s

impressive performance, the competition in the stolen base race remains tight, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.

Ruiz topped the American League last season with 67 stolen bases, achieved in just 132 games. Had he played as many games as Acuna, he might have

surpassed Acuna’s total. While Ruiz may not possess Acuna’s overall offensive prowess, he benefits from ample opportunities to steal bases in the

Oakland lineup. Although he isn’t consistently on base, there’s enough potential for him to utilize his speed effectively.

Corbin Carroll of the Arizona Diamondbacks is known for his

exceptional speed, evident in his 54 steals last season with a remarkable success rate. As a leadoff hitter for

Arizona, he’s poised to continue showcasing his speed with significant opportunities.

CJ Abrams, acquired by the Washington Nationals from San Diego, displayed his

speed by swiping 47 bases last season for a struggling Nationals team. With Washington likely to face similar

challenges this season, Abrams will have ample opportunities to excel on the basepaths, especially with his potential for improvement in on-base percentage.

Nico Hoerner of the Chicago Cubs may fly under the radar, but his performance merits attention. Just behind Abrams in steals last season, Hoerner is adept at

getting on base and manufacturing runs. His increased walk rate suggests potential for further improvement and more steals as he enters his prime.

Jose Caballero of the Tampa Bay Rays may benefit from increased playing time .

due to uncertainty surrounding Wander Franco’s future. Known for his speed, Caballero stole 26 bases last season in

limited at-bats. While his playing time may not be as assured as others, his potential upside makes him a noteworthy candidate in the stolen base race.
