After showcasing years of impressive performances for Aston Villa, Ezri Konsa finally earned his debut cap for England on Saturday.

Although he was previously called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad before the end of the year, he didn’t get any playing time.

While sitting on the bench during England’s 1-0 defeat to Brazil at Wembley on Saturday, some Aston Villa fans might have feared he would again miss out on playing time.

However, early in the first half, Kyle Walker sustained an injury and had to be substituted. Gareth Southgate then called upon Ezri Konsa to fill in at right-back.

Konsa has previously played in that role under Unai Emery at Aston Villa and has consistently delivered strong performances.

Despite feeling “shocked” when called up by Southgate to play at right-back against

Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr, Konsa put in a solid performance, although England ultimately lost the game with teenager Endrick stealing the headlines.

Being able to represent my country is a dream come true for me, and it’s a moment of immense pride for both me and my family. Playing against a team as historic as Brazil is truly special.”
