Sad News : Jets Chairman reveals a terrible thing that jets will suffer will Happen if …

New York Jets owner and chairman Woody Johnson stated on Monday that the team intends to retain quarterback Zach Wilson if no trade opportunities materialize this offseason. Johnson recognized that a change of environment might benefit both Wilson and the team, but he also voiced belief in Wilson’s potential despite his past challenges, as reported by SNY.

Although there is mutual interest in a new beginning, it is likely that the BYU graduate will remain with the Jets for at least another year, possibly in the role of a third-string quarterback.

Johnson essentially acknowledged organizational mismanagement last

season, as the Jets should not have designated Wilson as the backup quarterback initially. Originally intended

to have a developmental season, Wilson was thrust into the immediate backup role behind Aaron Rodgers. Unfortunately, the worst-case scenario

unfolded on the fourth snap of the season, exposing an unprepared Wilson who continued to struggle for the third consecutive year.

With the team bringing in veteran Tyrod Taylor for the backup role, it appeared likely that Wilson would be on his way out. However, there seems to be a lack of interest in trading for the former No. 2 overall pick, even at a discounted price. This poses a challenge for the Jets, who may not see any return on their significant investment in Wilson.

There’s an ongoing debate among football fans regarding whether a young quarterback’s struggles are primarily his own fault or a result of organizational

issues. The Jets have a reputation for internal problems, which likely didn’t help Wilson’s development, as noted by

Total Apex Sports. Nonetheless, some argue that true franchise quarterbacks always find a way to succeed despite challenging circumstances.

Wilson had two standout performances in 2023 that showcased his potential. One

notable game was when he nearly outplayed Patrick Mahomes on Sunday Night Football, and the other was a dominant showing against the Houston Texans, resulting in a 30-6 victory.

However, despite these moments, having only two standout games over three full seasons in the league may not be sufficient.

Comparatively, Joe Burrow and CJ Stroud faced similar challenges during their rookie campaigns. Burrow operated

behind a subpar offensive line, while Stroud was tasked with elevating a struggling Texans team from the start. Although they weren’t flawless, both

Burrow and Stroud demonstrated their legitimacy relatively quickly and are now regarded as promising young talents in the league.

The chances of Wilson reaching the level of Burrow and Stroud statistically appear slim, but there’s potential for him to

develop into a reliable second-string quarterback. Recent examples like Sam Darnold, Jameis Winston, and Marcus Mariota, all former first-round picks,

have transitioned to backup roles. However, Wilson would benefit from spending a year on the bench to refine his skills before reaching that stage.
