Jason Demetrius has charged his players to play in a more conservative game plan in an effort to secure their first victory.

South Sydney is under pressure to shift away from flashy plays and adopt a more conservative approach as they strive for

their first victory of the season. With three consecutive defeats against the Broncos, Manly, and the Roosters, the Rabbitohs must bounce back in

upcoming matches against the Bulldogs, Warriors, and Sharks to alleviate the mounting pressure on coach Jason Demetriou.

The recent 48-6 loss to the Roosters highlighted Souths’ struggles, as they

managed to complete only 70% of their sets and committed five more errors than their opponents. While the trio of

Latrell Mitchell, Cody Walker, and Jack Wighton needs time to develop synergy, there are suggestions for Mitchell to transition from fullback to the centres.

Conventional wisdom dictates that a formidable playmaker and forward pack are essential for NRL success. While

Lachlan Ilias may return to the lineup after being demoted to reserve grade, critics argue that Souths’ forward pack should be performing better. Some

believe that instead of investing around $800,000 per season in Wighton, Souths should have recruited a top-tier forward to complement Cam Murray.

However, Corey Parker, a former Broncos star, maintains that Souths

possess more than enough talent and experience to secure victories. He points out the caliber of players like Mitchell,

Walker, Wighton, Koloamatangi, Murray, Cook, Burgess, and Arrow, all of whom are current representative players, yet the team has failed to register a win.

Parker suggests that there may be internal issues within the Souths camp, citing a perceived fracture or divide

contributing to the team’s struggles. Despite the potential of various player combinations, Parker believes that something is amiss within the club.

Former NRL player James Graham has advised South Sydney to adopt a more conservative approach in their games,

emphasizing the need to build into matches rather than solely focusing on scoring plays. According to Graham, the

team often relies on highlight-reel plays and needs to prioritize building a solid performance instead. He suggests that they should abandon risky plays, such as

kicking the ball bac

k inside when a break occurs, and focus on securing wins through a more conservative style of play.

Graham’s sentiments were echoed by former player Gorden Tallis, who

emphasized the importance of scoring points late in games. However, opinions are divided among commentators

regarding the talent level of Souths’ roster. While some, like Tallis, believe that their forward pack lacks depth compared to other top teams, others, like

James Hooper, argue that Souths possess a roster capable of contending for the premiership.

The Rabbitohs’ recent string of losses has put pressure on coach Jason Demetriou, with their upcoming three-game home stand viewed as critical for their season. Their first test will be against the Bulldogs at Accor Stadium on Good Friday.
