Disappointment in MLB Teams as opening day matches are indefinitely delayed due to. RainĀ

The MLB season openers scheduled in New York and Philadelphia have been

postponed until Friday due to anticipated rainy weather forecasts along the East Coast, as announced by the respective teams on Wednesday.

Originally, the Milwaukee Brewers were set to face the New York Mets in Queens on Thursday. However, the game has been rescheduled to take place a day later at 1:40 p.m. ET. Following the

confirmation from the Mets and Brewers, the Philadelphia Phillies informed fans that their home opener against the Atlanta Braves, initially slated for Thursday, will now occur on Friday at 3:05 p.m.

This matchup is highly anticipated, featuring the Braves against the team that eliminated them from the past two

postseasons. To compensate for the delay in watching this rivalry unfold, the Phillies have offered scarves to attendees of the postponed opener.

Phillies executive vice president David Buck explained the decision, stating, “The decision was made after consultation with Major League Baseball and various weather services.”

According to ABC News, multiple states are under flood watch as heavy rain moves toward the East Coast. The

weather shift is attributed to heavy snow in the Upper Midwest, which continued its eastward movement on Wednesday.

Additionally, areas between Florida and southern Georgia reported large hail, described as “the size of ping-pong balls.”

Meanwhile, regions between New Mexico and Minnesota experienced 20 to 40 inches of snow.

As a result, flood watches have been issued from Florida to Virginia for

Thursday. The Jersey shore, Long Island, and eastern regions of New England are anticipated to receive the heaviest rainfall through Thursday night.

Assuming there are no additional weather disruptions, 24 teams are still slated to make their season debuts in 13 other MLB openers on Thursday.

The 2024 season began for the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres with their participation in the two-game Seoul Series last week.
