Knicks player Jalen Brunson has a strong message ahead of thunder clash to fans.

Jalen Brunson delivered an exceptional individual performance for the New York Knicks on Friday night, etching his name

in the team’s history books. However, his focus remained squarely on the outcome of the game—a loss for the Knicks that could impact their playoff positioning.

Looking to rebound, the Knicks will take on the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday night in a matchup between two teams destined for the playoffs.

Following a day of rest for both squads after Friday’s games, Brunson’s remarkable 61-point display wasn’t

enough to secure a victory for the Knicks, as they fell 130-126 in overtime to the San Antonio Spurs. Meanwhile, despite

missing star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder cruised to a convincing 128-103 win over the Phoenix Suns.

Brunson’s remarkable 61-point performance fell just shy of the franchise record set by Carmelo Anthony, who scored 62 points in a victory over the

Charlotte Hornets on Jan. 24, 2014. The star point guard’s standout effort included scoring 38 points in the second half alone, matching a franchise record set by Patrick Ewing in 1995.

Additionally, Brunson’s 47 shot attempts marked the highest since Kobe Bryant famously took 50 shots in his final game on April 13, 2016.

Despite Brunson’s heroics, he missed a crucial attempt, a potential go-ahead 3-pointer with just five seconds remaining. The Knicks suffered a tough loss as

Precious Achiuwa turned the ball over on the rebound, allowing Tre Jones to seal the win for the Spurs with two free throws.

Following the defeat, the Knicks (44-29) slipped to fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings, trailing the

Cleveland Cavaliers by just half a game. Their setback also widened the gap to two games behind the second-place Milwaukee Bucks, who had a night off.

“It’s impressive, but that stuff doesn’t matter much with a loss,” Brunson remarked. “So it doesn’t really matter.”

Meanwhile, the Thunder (51-22) were in high spirits on Friday as they moved into a tie for first place in the Western Conference alongside the Minnesota

Timberwolves. The Timberwolves’ win over the Denver Nuggets pushed the defending NBA champions down to third place.

Although the Thunder and Timberwolves split their four-game season series, Minnesota currently holds the top spot in

the West by the slimmest of margins due to their superior 12-3 record within the Northwest Division – just edging out Oklahoma City’s 12-4 mark.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander remained sidelined for a second consecutive game

with a bruised right thigh, but he observed as the Thunder controlled the game for the final three quarters on

Friday. Head coach Mark Daigneault mentioned before the game that Gilgeous-Alexander’s condition is improving.

Oklahoma City sealed the victory on Friday during the third quarter, with Josh Giddey contributing 13 of his 23

points as the team outscored the Suns 31-21. Giddey equaled his career-high of 31 points in Wednesday’s overtime loss to the Houston Rockets.

Against the Rockets, Giddey played nearly 32 minutes after logging 30-plus minutes in a win over the New Orleans

Pelicans on Tuesday. This marked only the second occasion this season where Giddey played at least 30 minutes in consecutive games.

Daigneault expressed optimism about the Thunder’s identity remaining consistent even without Gilgeous-Alexander. He noted that Gilgeous-

Alexander’s absence has allowed other players to step up and gain more playing time, which could be beneficial for the team in the long run.
