Unbelievable:Jets quarterback back move that will shock the world as revealed
|Jets quarterback back move that will shock the world as revealed.
A former wide receiver for the New York Jets believes that the team will make a significant impact on draft day in April.
Rob Carpenter took to social media to share his prediction, stating, “Joe D
gonna shock the World when he picks [Michael Penix Jr] at [pick] 10.” This comment came in response to a post
discussing the likelihood of the Washington quarterback being selected in the first round following his impressive Pro Day.
Jets general manager Joe Douglas appeared to keep the possibility open for
the team to potentially draft a quarterback with the 10th overall pick in the first round. During the Annual
League Meeting, Douglas stated, “The draft is going to present a lot of interesting possibilities at that position [QB] as well. So we are exploring that.
We’ve got our coaches and scouts out on the road working out a bunch of different positions.”
With the Jets making significant moves in free agency and through trades, they now possess flexibility heading into the draft. This has sparked speculation on
social media, suggesting that the quarterback position is now a viable option for Gang Green, particularly in the early rounds.
However, Rich Cimini of ESPN expressed skepticism regarding Douglas’ comments, suggesting that they appeared somewhat
dubious. “While the Jets undoubtedly need a young quarterback in their roster, assuming Zach Wilson is no longer in the picture, the likelihood of them selecting
one at such a high draft position seems improbable,” Cimini explained. “While securing the future is important, the Jets also require a player who can contribute
immediately and capitalize on quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ remaining window of opportunity. After all, Rodgers turns 41 in December.”
Cimini believes that instead of selecting a quarterback with their high pick, the Jets
are more inclined to trade it to a team in need of a quarterback, thereby allowing them to acquire a top-100 pick in return.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated echoed similar sentiments on “The Rich Eisen Show,” emphasizing the importance of Penix’s medical evaluation. “First and
foremost, the medical assessment is crucial for Penix, and this is widely recognized,” Breer stated. “Different teams will have varying medical
assessments of him. One individual I spoke with mentioned that while the medical grade isn’t optimal, it’s manageable.”
Penix has a concerning injury history dating back to his time at Indiana University. He has suffered two torn
right ACLs and has experienced “multiple season-ending injuries,” according to Lance Zierlein.
Penix deserves credit for overcoming his injury challenges in his final season at
Washington. He managed to appear in all 15 games and achieved some remarkable milestones in the process.
During this time, Penix showcased impressive statistics, completing 65.4% of
his passes, amassing 4,903 passing yards, and boasting a 36 touchdown to 11 interception ratio.
In addition to his injury history, Penix is currently 23 years old and will reach the age of 24 before the start of the 2024 season.
Breer pointed out that due to his age, there might be limitations to Penix’s growth potential compared to younger players who have the opportunity to
evolve further. In essence, Penix may have already reached his peak potential, whereas younger players have more room for development.
“I’m just not convinced that the NFL, as a whole, shares the same level of
enthusiasm for Michael Penix as observers from the outside,” Breer explained to Eisen.
NFL expert Benjamin Allbright has been echoing similar sentiments on social
media for several months. According to Allbright, sources within the league indicate that there is less enthusiasm for Penix compared to the perception among
media and fans. He categorizes Penix as a “day 2/3” player, suggesting that he is likely to be selected outside of the first round.
During the Annual League Meeting, head coach Robert Saleh expressed the Jets’ intention to add another quarterback to their roster this offseason. While Saleh
did not specify whether this addition would occur in the first round of the draft, it remains to be seen as the offseason unfolds.
