Braves are defeated by the White Sox, and DeJong hits a home run.

Garrett Crochet delivered an outstanding performance with seven impressive innings on the mound, while pinch-hitter Paul DeJong’s tiebreaking home run

propelled the Chicago White Sox to their first victory, edging out the Atlanta Braves 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Reflecting on the win, Crochet emphasized the significance of the team

effort, describing it as a “huge team win” and highlighting the grit displayed, particularly towards the end of the game.

In a crucial role, Michael Kopech stepped in for his first professional save,

requiring five outs and 39 pitches. He entered the game in the eighth inning with two runners on base and

successfully navigated out of a bases-loaded jam to secure the win for the White Sox.

In the ninth inning, he yielded a solo home run to Marcell Ozuna with one out,

and encountered further trouble with two outs as he walked Michael Harris II and allowed a single to Orlando Arcia,

putting runners on first and second. However, he managed to retire Travis d’Arnaud on a pop fly, securing the victory for his team.

Gavin Sheets and Andrew Vaughn contributed with RBI singles, enabling

the White Sox to overcome two home runs by Ozuna and secure their first win after an initial 0-4 start to the season.

Crochet (1-1) demonstrated strong performance on the mound, limiting the

Braves to one run and three hits in his second professional start. The hard-throwing left-hander recorded eight

strikeouts and issued just one walk, following up on his impressive debut in Chicago’s opening 1-0 loss to Detroit.

Manager Pedro Grifol commended Crochet’s performance, noting his ability to adjust and effectively mix his pitches after starting with high velocity.

Sheets provided Chicago with a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning with an RBI single against Reynaldo López, but Ozuna

leveled the score in the seventh with a drive to left field. However, DeJong, batting for Braden Shewmake, quickly

restored Chicago’s lead by hitting a homer to left field off A.J. Minter (0-1) to lead off the bottom half, marking his second homer of the game.

Atlanta threatened in the eighth inning by loading the bases with just one out. However, John Brebbia issued walks to Jarred Kelenic and Ronald Acuña Jr.,

before Kopech walked Ozzie Albies. Nonetheless, Kopech induced Austin Riley to ground into a double play, escaping the inning unscathed.

Vaughn extended the lead to 3-1 by bringing in Luis Robert Jr. with a single in the eighth inning. Kopech maintained

his composure in the ninth inning, aided by some mound visits from catcher Martin Maldonado.

Kopech expressed gratitude that the situation didn’t escalate, acknowledging Maldonado’s leadership in handling the pressure.

López, who previously pitched for the White Sox from 2017-23, made his Braves

debut with a six-inning performance. The 30-year-old right-hander surrendered one run and four hits.

Reflecting on his role, López emphasized that discussions prior to signing the contract were centered on him being a starter. He noted the importance of

maintaining that mentality throughout spring training, allowing him to focus and adapt accordingly.

Additionally, the Braves reached agreements on minor league contracts with catcher Sandy León and right-hander Jackson Stephens.
