An ex-star of the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Penrith Panthers explains why the Super League move fell through.

Following an impressive stint in the UK representing Lebanon at the Rugby League World Cup in late 2022, Mansour expressed his willingness to relocate to

the Super League with his partner. However, just as the 33-year-old was preparing to make the move, his wife delivered unexpected news—she was

pregnant with their child, throwing a wrench into their plans of moving halfway across the world.

Faced with this unexpected development, Mansour found himself at a crossroads. Despite his eagerness to pursue opportunities overseas, he ultimately made the selfless decision to prioritize

his family’s well-being. This marked a significant departure from his usual career-focused mindset, but Mansour knew it was the right choice to make.

Reflecting on his decision, Mansour shared his experience on James Graham’s The Bye Round podcast,

revealing the internal struggle he faced in putting his family’s needs ahead of his professional aspirations. Ultimately, he

opted to remain in his current location, opting for stability and support during this important time in his family’s life.

Despite the change of plans, Mansour found solace and fulfillment in continuing his rugby league journey with the Newtown Jets. Playing for the

historical club allowed him to reconnect with the sport he loves while also fostering a sense of belonging to a community he grew up around.

“I used to play football around that area, and I thought, ‘perhaps this is where my journey will conclude.’ If that had been

the end, I would have been satisfied. So, I decided to have my final rugby league season with the illustrious Jets.”

Mansour has since retired after amassing nearly 200 NRL appearances, with over 150 of those representing the Penrith Panthers from 2012 to 2020.
